Christ the Redeemer and Corcovado

The open-armed statue of Christ the Redeemer, atop the Corcovado mountain, is the symbol of Rio and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The views from the summit over the city, the bay and the beaches are simply staggering. Most visitors take the cog train up through the Tijuca forest (book ahead, especially in high season), though the budget-and-fitness option is to hike up via the forest trail.
