Privacy Policy
Last updated: 08/07/2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information A Place To Visit ("we", "us", "our") collects when you use aplacetovisit.com, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We've tried to write it in plain English rather than legal jargon.
This policy is designed to meet the requirements of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) for our US visitors.
Who we are
A Place To Visit is a trading name of Signal Digital Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17100116), with its registered office at 51 Ladygrove, Pixton Way, Croydon, CR0 9LS. We operate the travel content and recommendations website at aplacetovisit.com. For any privacy questions or requests, contact us at aplacetovisit@outlook.com. For the purposes of data protection law, we are the "data controller" for the information described here.
The information we collect
We aim to collect only the personal information we need. Here's what we may collect and why.
Information you give us directly
Our club, newsletter and traveller quiz. If you join our club, sign up to our newsletter, or take our traveller quiz, we collect the information you choose to provide. This includes your email address and the answers you give in the quiz, such as the kinds of trips you enjoy, your travel-budget style, the regions of the world you're interested in, who you travel with, and how often you travel. You provide this voluntarily, and you can unsubscribe or ask us to delete it at any time.
Contacting us. If you contact us by email, we'll have whatever information you include in your message.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, certain information is collected automatically, including your approximate location and your language and currency, which we detect from your IP address so we can show relevant prices and content. We also collect, through cookies and similar technologies, the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, the type of device and browser you use, and similar analytics data. This is standard for almost all websites and helps us understand what's useful to our visitors.
Affiliate tracking
When you click an affiliate link, our affiliate partners (such as Travelpayouts) may place a cookie that records that the click came from our site. This lets them credit us with a commission if you go on to make a booking. We don't see your payment details or the specifics of what you book, only whether a referral happened.
For full detail on the cookies we and our partners use, please see our Cookie Policy.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- operate, maintain and improve the website and its content
- detect your location, language and currency so we can show relevant prices and content
- send you our newsletter and club emails, where you've asked to receive them
- personalise the content, tips, guides and deals we send you, based on the preferences you share in the quiz (for example, sending beach-focused or budget-focused content to those who tell us that's what they like)
- build an understanding of the types of travellers who join our club (grouping people by interests such as trip type, budget style and preferred regions) so that we can make our content and marketing more relevant, and so that we can plan and target future advertising campaigns
- understand how visitors use the site so we can make it better
- earn affiliate commissions that keep the site running and the content free
- respond to your questions and requests
- comply with our legal obligations
Profiling and marketing audiences
We want to be clear and upfront about this. When you take our quiz and join our club, we use your answers to build a profile of your travel preferences (this is known as "profiling" under data protection law). We use that profile in two ways: to personalise the newsletters and content we send you, and to help us plan and build audiences for future marketing and advertising campaigns, which may include sharing grouped or matched audience information with advertising platforms.
We only do this with your consent, which you give when you join. This profiling does not involve any automated decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you. You can withdraw your consent, unsubscribe, or ask us to delete your data at any time, and we will stop.
Our legal basis for using your data (UK and EU visitors)
Under the UK and EU GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent, for sending you marketing and club emails, for the profiling and audience-building described above, and for setting non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests, for basic analytics, for detecting your location to show relevant content, and for running our affiliate partnerships, balanced against your rights and freedoms.
- Legal obligation, where we need to process information to comply with the law.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers who help us run the site and our club. These include our hosting and database provider (Supabase), which stores our club and quiz data; our email service provider, which sends our newsletters on our behalf; and our analytics provider. These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements.
- Affiliate partners, through the tracking cookies described above, which record referrals rather than your personal identity.
- Advertising platforms, where, with your consent, we use grouped or matched audience information to plan and target future marketing. Where this involves sharing data, we do so under the platform's terms and appropriate safeguards.
- Authorities or third parties, where we are required to by law.
Some of these providers may be based outside the UK or EU, including in the United States. Where that's the case, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your information.
How long we keep your information
We keep your club, newsletter and quiz data for as long as you remain subscribed, or until you ask us to delete it or withdraw your consent. If you unsubscribe, we will remove your data from active use within a reasonable period, keeping only what we must for legal or record-keeping reasons. Analytics data is retained for a limited period in line with our analytics provider's settings. We don't keep personal information for longer than we need it.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct inaccurate data
- ask us to delete your data
- object to or restrict how we process it, including objecting to profiling for marketing
- withdraw consent at any time
- request a copy of your data in a portable format
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk)
If you are in California
Under the CCPA you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request deletion of your information, to opt out of the "sharing" of your information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell personal information for money. To exercise these rights, email us at the address below.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at aplacetovisit@outlook.com and we'll respond within the timeframes the law requires.
Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be made clear on the site.
